KPPU Talks About Hoarding of Cooking Oil Minyakita, Shortage in Markets

21 February 2023 11:53 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) chairperson M Afif Hasbullah revealed a number of findings of hoarding of bulk cooking oil in simple packaging dubbed Minyakita reaching hundreds of tons.

“Based on the results of ongoing research, there is still alleged distribution fraud of cooking oil in the form of conditional sales and hoarding,” Afif told Tempo on Monday, February 20, 2023.

He said that the KPPU in tandem with the Police Food Task Force also found the packaged cooking oil stockpiled in Kendal of Central Java, Medan of North Sumatra, as well as in the warehouse of the cooking oil producer PT Yorgo Anugerah Nusantara totaling 75 tons.

According to Afif, there were still many allegations of commodity hoarding carried out by producers. At present, the KPPU is still investigating the motive.

“Of course, all will lead to law enforcement at KPPU if the evidence for alleged violations is fulfilled,” he underlined.

As previously reported, the Trade Ministry and the Police Food Task Force found 515 tons of Minyakita stockpiled by producers PT Bina Karya Prima (BKP) at its warehouse in Marunda, North Jakarta on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

On Monday, January 20, Acting Director General of Domestic Trade at the Trade Ministry Kasan said stocks of Minyakita were running low due to a decrease in the distribution of crude palm oil (CPO) for bulk cooking oil and Minyakita from December 2022 to January 2023.
