TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo attended the inauguration of the Central Executive Board of the Young Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (BPP HIPMI) on Monday, February 20, 2023.

In his opening speech, President Jokowi mentioned about the recent enactment of Government Regulation In Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 concerning Work Creation (Work Creation Regulation), which will be passed as a law soon.

Jokowi said that the most important thing in relation to the passing of the Work Creation Law is to build a good business ecosystem. "The Work Creation Law will soon be finished, it is simply will provide opportunities for all of us to create new jobs as many as possible," Jokowi said.

As previously reported, the enactment of the Work Creation Regulation by president Jokowi has raised many concerns and criticisms. Moreover, the Work Creation Regulation was issued as a rushed patch to correct the previous Work Creation Law, which has been declared as unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court through the issuance of Decision No. 91/PUU-XVIII/2020 on November 25, 2021.

Jokowi said that the upstreaming of the industrial sector, which has become the main focus of the government will not be easy without the presence of the Work Creation Law. However the President said that the government will continue to push for the plan despite being challenged in a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization because of the government's nickel export ban.

Jokowi also reminded businesses members of Hipmi who owns nickel, bauxite, tin, copper, and gold to prepare for raw materials export ban. Jokowi underlined that the government will certainly impose the ban.

"Because we want everything to have added value despite the ongoing appeal process at the WTO, we will keep going. No turning back," Jokowi said.

According to President Jokowi, upstreaming is the only way to develop Indonesia's business ecosystem. For example, if Indonesia successfully came out on top of the electric vehicle battery industry it will bring much benefits to other industries.
