TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI Hearing (RDPU) on Monday was held to dissect the issue surrounding the troubled apartment Meikarta project. This hearing was held after Meikarta filed a lawsuit against a group of customers who protested and demanded they receive their apartment units.
The hearing was attended by representatives from the project’s stakeholders: Lippo Group, PT Lippo Cikarang Tbk, dan PT Mahkota Sentosa Utama (MSU).
During the hearing, Commission VI legislator Andre Rosiade was visually frustrated by the seemingly-neverending case, especially as he responded to the developer’s lawsuit against its own customers.
His dissatisfaction was aimed at Lippo Cikarang president director Ketut Budi Wijaya and MSU CEO Indra Azwar, who represent Meikarta.
“If we had not [pushed for this hearing] we did not summon both of you. You would just trample on those [customers]. I’ve also heard [rumors] that you are audacious among to do that because you think you can control the police, prosecutors, and judges,” said Andre in the hearing on February 13.
As previously reported, Meikarta consumer representatives complained to the DPR because they felt aggrieved for the lack of resolution from developers to hand over apartment units Those who demonstrated to fight for their rights were even sued in court.
Andre even insisted that the country will not be dictated by a major developer such as Lippo. “This is the republic of Indonesia, not the republic of Lippo. No one will dictate this republic. It’s important to understand that we will face the oligarchs,” said the legislator.
The DPR will also summon the CEO of PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk John Riady to provide information regarding the construction of the problematic Meikarta Apartments. The summons is scheduled to take place after the DPR recess period.
"DPR Commission VI will invite related parties from the Lippo Group, namely John Riady as CEO of PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk," Deputy Chairman of Commission VI DPR Mohamad Hekal said at the meeting.
Andre Rosiade also suggested that members of Commission VI report to each faction to form a special committee (pansus). He believes this is needed to prevent future cases where developers intimidate the general public.
