Court Sentences Richard Eliezer to 1.5 Years in Prison

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta District Court has sentenced Richard Eliezer to one year and six months in prison as he was found guilty in the premeditated murder case of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J, the former aide of Ferdy Sambo.
“The court declares that the defendant Richard Eliezer has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the crime of premeditated murder. The court sentences the defendant Richard Eliezer to one year and six months in prison,” the presiding judge Wahyu Iman Santoso read out the verdict in today's hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, February 15, 2023.
The sentence was lower than the prosecutor’s demand of 12 years imprisonment. The prosecutor said Eliezer or Bharada E violated Article 340 in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) Number 1 of the Criminal Code.
The panel of judges only pointed out one aggravating factor in deciding the sentence, which was the close relationship between the defendant and the victim.
The mitigating factor, meanwhile, included the defendant’s cooperation as a witness, politeness during the trials, and no previous crime. The judges also considered his young age and expected him to be a better person in the future.
“The defendant Richard Eliezer regrets his action and pledged that he will not repeat the act and the family of the victim Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat has forgiven the defendant’s act,” said judge Wahyu.
