TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Immigration on Friday announced the arrest of a 32-year-old Australian identified as A.S. who is registered in Interpol's most wanted list as an international narcotics fugitive. The director general Silmy Karim said the Australian was apprehended at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
"It started with the Interpol Hit on the Immigration crossing application which showed that A.S. was an Interpol subject issued by the Italian government on November 18," Silmy wrote on Friday, February 10.
The Ngurah Rai airport authorities notified the Indonesian Police (Polri) National Central Bureau (NCB) and Interpol. Bali police will then follow up on this information and fetch the fugitive.
According to authorities, A.S. entered Bali aboard Batik Air flight OD171 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Australian citizen is known to have dual citizenship, namely Australian and Italian, and was wanted in Italy for being involved in trafficking 160 kg of marijuana on the black market.
