TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) has scheduled to examine Communication and Information Minister (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate today on Thursday as a witness in the corruption inquiry that involves the construction of thousands of 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers.
“Yes [he has been summoned]. He will go through an examination and cannot be represented," said the Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center, Ketut Sumedana on Wednesday, February 8.
It is still unknown whether the state minister will fulfill the summons, as he is currently still accompanying President Joko Widodo on a state visit to North Sumatra.
The project subjected to the corruption inquiry is the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency Business Service Agency (BAKTI) program overseen by Kominfo. This project includes plans to build 9,000 BTS towers across 7,900 villages and sub-districts categorized as 3T (frontier, outermost, lagging) areas. The prepared budget reached a staggering Rp11 trillion.
The BTS construction is handled by 3 consortiums, namely the Fiberhome, Telkom Infra, and Multi Trans Data consortium; the Aplikanusa Lintasarta consortium, Huawei and Surya Energi Indotama; and Prosperous Business Infrastructure and ZTE.
