Mayor Opens Solo Safari to Public

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka officially opened Solo Safari for the general public, Friday, January 27. The inauguration was marked by three strikes of the gong by the president's son.
Following its facelift, the zoo formerly named Taru Jurug Animal Park (TSTJ) or Jurug Solo Zoo now has 87 species of animals in its collections.
"In the future, we will have more," Gibran told reporters after the opening ceremony on Friday, January 27, 2023.
Some of the animals are endemic and endangered species. Among the collection of animals occupying Solo Safari are the Komodo dragon, wallaby, binturung, anoa, pandan civet, nilgai, tapir, and many others.
Solo Safari visitors can also interact more closely with various types of animals. The zoo also has scheduled animal shows that visitors can watch, twice a day.
New Tourist Destination
Mayor Gibran said that with the opening of Solo Safari, the City of Solo has added a new tourist destination. The number of visitors is expected to reach 2,000 people daily.
"Our hope is the zoo will not only attract residents from Solo, but also people around Solo, outside the city, outside the province," he said.
Gibran said that in the second phase of Solo Safari's development, the site will have an exhibition hall, food courts, and restaurants.
