TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) has built three Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a total capacity of 3.2-megawatt peak (MWp) to distribute electricity to the people of the Selayar Islands in South Sulawesi. General Manager of PLN's Main Distribution Unit for South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi, Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin, stated that the presence of PLTS is part of PLN's commitment to presenting environmentally friendly energy.
"This is PLN's commitment to providing environmentally friendly energy, especially in the Sulselrabar region [South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi]," Andy said in a written statement received by Tempo on Monday, January 23, 2023.
Andy hoped that the contract for the construction of the three PLTS can be completed according to plan so that the people of the Selayar Islands can have access to electricity and improve their living and economy.
The three PLTS are targeted to operate in October 2023. Each PLTS will be built in a different village, namely in Pasimarannu Village with a peak capacity of 1,398 kilowatts peak (kWp), Takabonerate Village with a total of 1,114 kWp, and Pasilambena Village with 695 kWp.
The three PLTS will provide additional electricity supply to serve 29,392 people. Previously, Selayar Regency already had one PLTS with a capacity of 1.3 Megawatt peak (MWp) in Parak Village, Bontomanai District.
It is known that the electrical system of Southern Sulawesi, especially in Sulselrabar, has been supplied by renewable energy from Wind Power Plants (PLTB) and Hydroelectric power plants (PLTA), such as PLTB Tolo (60MW), PLTB Sidrap (70MW), PLTA Bakaru (2x63MW), PLTA Poso (515 MW), PLTA Malea (90 MW), and PLTA Bili-bili (19.5 MW).
Therefore, the construction of the three PLTS in the Selayar Islands has succeeded in increasing the Renewable Energy source in Southern Sulawesi by 45.8 percent above the national target of 23 percent in 2025.
