Malang Residents Feel 4.8M Earthquake for Two Seconds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The earthquake that shook East Java with an updated magnitude of 4.8 on 111 kilometers southwest of Malang Regency, was felt until approximately 144 kilometers from the epicenter. It was centered in the sea at 9.14 degrees South Latitude, 112.48 degrees East Longitude, at a depth of 65 kilometers. The quake did not trigger a tsunami.
A resident of Malang, Nadiastika Rahana, stated that the earthquake can be felt quite strongly, but only for a brief moment. She said she felt the shaking for only about two seconds.
"It shook for about two seconds, but after that, it stopped. Hopefully, there will be no aftershocks," she said Tuesday, January 17.
According to her, the tremor felt quite strong, but it did not cause any damage to her house in the Klojen District area, Malang. "Only the glass shook slightly, but nothing fell off," she said.
Meanwhile, another Malang resident, Eddy Santoso, stated that the shaking of the earthquake was felt for a few moments. He felt the earthquake when working at an expedition office in the Kepanjen District, Malang Regency.
"It felt like it was shaking for a while, this was more powerful than the previous earthquake," he said.
Eddy added that the earthquake did not cause any panic among his colleagues or customers while at the location. "I didn't have time to panic, but I was just surprised," he said.
