Actor Ferry Irawan Detained over Allegations of Domestic Violence

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Java Police's Crimes Directorate detained actor Ferry Irawan on Monday evening, January 16, 2023, after undergoing an examination as a suspect since morning. Ferry is facing allegations of committing violence against his wife, actress, and politician Venna Melinda.
The East Java Police PR chief, Sr. Comr. Dirmanto, said that prior to his detention Ferry underwent a medical checkup conducted by doctors from the Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya.
"From the results of the doctor's examination, medically there are no obstacles to further processing [detention]," said Dirmanto.
Ferry was also considered to be mentally sound based on an interview conducted by a team of doctors.
Investigators detained Ferry according to Article 21 of the Criminal Code. "Investigators have the authority to detain suspects whose punishment is 5 years and above," Dirmato said.
The police named Ferry Irawan a suspect on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Ferry is charged with violating Articles 44 and 45 of Law No. 23/2004 on Domestic Violence, accused of committing physical and psychological violence against his wife, Venna Melinda. Ferry denied the allegations.
