Elon Musk Comments on Tesla's Investment in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tesla is reportedly back in negotiations with the Government of Indonesia to build a factory in Indonesia. As reported by Reuters, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, is said to be in talks again with Tesla regarding investment in Indonesia.

Quoted from the Reuters page on Friday, January 13, 2023, Indonesia's negotiations with Tesla are to promote investment in the production of electric cars and batteries in the country. However, Luhut was reluctant to comment on this news.

"I can't comment, it is still in discussion," said Luhut.

Regarding the circulation of the news, Tesla CEO Elon Musk eventually speak up to address the issue. According to Elon Musk on his Twitter account, the media need to be careful in writing articles citing anonymous sources.

"Please be careful when writing articles citing 'unnamed sources', because they are often false," Elon tweeted, Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Based on information from Reuters, a discussion between Tesla and the Indonesian government is taken regarding production facilities and to facilitate the company's supply chain. Tesla has signed a contract worth around US$5 billion to purchase battery materials from a nickel processing company in Indonesia.
