TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairperson of the Indonesian Crypto Asset Traders Association (Aspakrindo) Teguh Kurniawan Harmanda on Thursday responded positively to the crypto exchange plan pitched by the Commodity Futures Trade Regulatory Agency (Bappebti).
“Globally, [the crypto asset exchange] does not guarantee it will increase prices but from the perspective of trade in Indonesia, it will establish trust and attract new investors. We are optimistic about that,” said Teguh at the Bappebti headquarters on January 5.
From a global perspective, Teguh argues crypto trading in Indonesia is not yet at the extraordinary level of global crypto transactions. Prices will not necessarily be driven by an increase in transactions, especially considering Indonesia’s lack of prominence globally.
However, Teguh remains optimistic as statistics show that Indonesian cryptocurrency users continue to grow despite the volume of transactions decreasing from a total transaction of Rp859.4 trillion in 2021 to Rp296.66 trillion in 2022. Data from Bappebti showed that the total registered customers of crypto assets grew from 11.2 million in 2021 to 16.55 million in 2022.
Bappebti is aiming to realize the crypto exchange this year. Acting Head of Bappebti Didid Noordiatmoko said the exchange would later take the role of supervising, managing and regulating its members.
