TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Tangerang City Health Agency called on the public to be aware of dengue fever, or DBD, as there is an increase in cases during the current rainy season.
“There has been an increase in cases, although it is not significant, we still have to watch it out,” said the agency head dr. Dini Anggraeni in Tangerang, Monday, January 2, 2023, as quoted from Antara.
Dini asked the public to keep their environment clean and stay alert because of high mobility during the Christmas and New Year holidays. This high mobility has the potential to spread the disease, including people taking a vacation to malaria-endemic areas. “Both diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes,” she added.
With the current weather conditions, Dini asserted that people should pay more attention to their health and immunity and immediately go for a check-up if they experience a fluctuating high fever.
To prevent dengue, people are advised to install screens or mosquito nets on air vents on doors or windows. “Protect yourself with mosquito repellent lotion or cream. Take it wherever you go if needed,” said Dini.
People are also asked to diligently drain their bathtubs or water reservoir buckets, as well as water dispensers and flower pots at least once a week so they don't become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
It is also recommended not to pile up or hang up clothes because human body odor can attract mosquitoes and to plant mosquito-repellent plants, such as lavender, peppermint, persimmon, and citronella.
Dini further suggested people maintain their immune system by eating regularly, taking vitamins, exercising, and getting enough rest so as to prevent dengue fever.
