TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) stated that the potential storm to occur in the Greater Jakarta area on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, is going to be small.
"Based on the BMKG weather forecast on December 28, 2022, there will be rain with moderate to heavy intensity, but not a storm," said BMKG deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto in an online press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 27, 2022, quoted from Antara.
BMKG urges the public to remain calm and continue to keep updated on weather information through their official channel on social media.
Guswanto advised the public to remain vigilant for any potential hydrometeorological hazards at the end of the year. "BMKG urges the public to be aware of the potential impact of extreme weather, namely the hydrometeorological hazards," he said.
On the same occasion, the Head of the BMKG Meteorology Public Center, Fachri Radjab, stated that moderate to heavy and even very heavy downpours could still occur until early January 2023.
He explained that an increase in rainfall with heavy to very heavy intensity could potentially occur on December 30, 2022.
Regarding storms, he explained, according to meteorological terminology, are part of heavy rain and strong winds which are usually associated with tropical cyclones with a speed of around 64-72 knots, accompanied by bad weather.
He hopes that the public has the same view regarding hurricane terminology.
Previously it was reported, researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency, Erma Yulihastin via her personal Twitter account @EYulihastin, stated that there would be extreme rain and storms, according to the data from the Satellite-based Disaster Early Warning System, Sadewa.
"Any who reside in Greater Jakarta and especially Tangerang or Banten, please be prepared for extreme rain and violent storm on December 28, 2022," she said on Twitter.
She wrote that the storms from the sea will migrate to land via two routes, namely from the west through winds that bring rainstorms from the sea, and the north through strong surface winds.
From the early warning-based system, she assessed that areas in Banten, Jakarta, and Bekasi would be the central locations for the storm which is expected to start from noon until the evening of December 28, 2022.
