TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo tried out LRT Jabodebek train from Harjamukti Station, Depok, to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Station, East Jakarta, on Monday morning, December 26, 2022. After the test run of the 9-kilometer line, he expressed satisfaction.
“It’s a 9-kilometer long route and takes 12 minutes at a train speed of 80 kilometers/hour, very fast and without a driver,” said the President at the TMII LRT Station, East Jakarta.
He said he was proud of the train because apart from having advanced technology, the trains were domestically produced by state-run train manufacturer PT INKA (Persero). He hoped that the train will be operational by the middle of next year.
“So this train, with a capacity of 420 passengers, will have a station capacity of 520. We hope that in June-July 2023, it will be able to operate simultaneously with the fast trains,” he remarked.
From today’s monitoring, the state head claimed the progress of the train construction remained at 87 percent. Depot construction and system synchronization are still required. Yet he also praised the convenience of the train trip.
“Yes, it’s comfortable, fast, and not noisy. I thought there was just a small sound when it turned,” he added.
The LRT Jabodebek was planned to have three routes, namely East Bekasi-Cawang, Cibubur-Cawang, and Cawang-Dukuh Atas. In addition, President Jokowi also approved the construction of the second phase with the Velodrome-Manggarai route last November.
