TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura I, or AP I, served 207,109 passengers on the peak of exodus flow during the Christmas holiday on December 23.

AP I president director, Faik Fahmi, said that passengers' movement in 15 airports under its management on D-2 of Christmas rose by 5.4 percent compared to the daily average passengers on December 19-22 of 196,532 passengers' movement.

"The number of passengers' movement on the peak of exodus flow during Christmas holiday 2022 grew 57 percent compared to the movement on the peak of Christmas exodus last year of 132,093 passengers," Fahmi said in a written statement Saturday, Dec. 24.

He said that the good news was contributed by the increase in people's interest to travel during holidays.

Therefore, his side has anticipated the busy movement by providing monitoring posts for Christmas and New Year's air transport in 15 airports starting on December 19, 2022, to January 3, 2023.

"We've also coordinated with several institutions, mainly with the related airlines regarding the readiness of aircraft to accommodate the high interest of the public in traveling, as it's not only because of the Christmas and New Year's holidays but it's also school holidays at the moment. So, this has further increased people's interest to travel," said the AP I CEO.

Angkasa Pura I recorded three airports with the highest passenger movement during the peak of traffic flow of this holiday season on December 23. They are Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport with 60,055 passengers, Surabaya's Juanda Airport with 40,608 passengers, and Makassar's Sultan Hasanuddin Airport with 32,692 passengers.

Fahmi said that Bali Airport recorded the highest passenger movement during this holiday season at 163 percent, compared to the same period last year.

In total, he went on, the 15 airports of AP I have served 989,040 passengers movement and 8,221 flights in the period of December 19-23, 2022. "Compared to the number of passengers' movement and flights in the same period last year, the growth is 50 percent for passengers' movement and 30 percent for flights' movement."

AP I predicted that the peak of the return traffic flow of the Christmas holiday will occur on December 26 or D+1 of Christmas. As for the peak of New Year holiday movement on December 30 or D-2 of the new year day, and the peak of return flow is expected to occur on January 2, 2023, or D+1 of the new year, Fahmi explained.
