TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tesla CEO Elon Musk took part at the B20 Summit in Bali virtually today, November 14, 2022, donning a green Bomba Batik shirt. The session's moderator Bakrie & Brothers CEO Anindya Bakrie informed that the Batik was made in a small village in Central Sulawesi.
“It is a place with a lot of nickel, so you may like to visit there,” said Anindya.
The people of Central Sulawesi, the Indonesian businessman also said, are determined to create a net zero industrial area with clean energy. “That’s why Batik Bomba is very special. I hope you like it,” he added.
The new Twitter owner thus replied, “That’s great. I love it.”
Anindya also mentioned Musk's absence at G20, acknowledging that he is indeed a hard worker given recent headlines that he made lately.
“If I were you, I would jump on a plane and fly to Bali and kind of hide a little bit and relax. Why don't you do that?” said Anindya.
Then Musk with a laugh disclosed his reasons for not coming to Bali. “That sounds fantastic. But you know, my workload has recently increased quite a lot. I have too much work on my plate. That's for sure.”
Previous reports suggested that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo believed that Elon Musk was interested in building an electric vehicle or EV factory in Indonesia. The negotiation process is reportedly still afoot as a follow-up on the visit of the President and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan to Tesla's HQ in the United States months ago.
“We are still talking with Elon Musk, with Tesla. But I believe Tesla will build a battery factory and car industry in Indonesia,” Jokowi said in an interview with The Economist, quoted from its YouTube channel, Sunday, November 13, 2022.
