Jokowi Inaugurates Jagat Nusantara, New Capital City in Metaverse Form

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the Jagat Nusantara social media platform at the Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta on Friday afternoon, October 28, 2022. The platform presents the new capital city or IKN Nusantara in the form of a metaverse.

According to the President, the IKN metaverse is an opportunity for people to share knowledge and meet great people all over the country, or even the world.

"And [it's] also the opportunity to introduce Indonesia's products globally," Jokowi said at the launching event on Friday, October 28, 2022.

Through the IKN metaverse, Jokowi said that artists across the country could hold concerts and exhibit their creations virtually to the public. Moreover, people can also exercise in the digital world.

"This will be an exciting experience," Jokowi said.

Meanwhile, the Founding Chairman of Jagat Nusantara, Wishnutama Kusubandio, explained that the presence of the city in the metaverse is the President's desire that technology could bring real city activities in the future. According to Wishnutama, IKN is the first city in the world to have a virtual form.

"This is of course not an easy innovation, Pak President. The technology for this platform is very complicated, but we will not stop here," said Wishnutama.

Wisnu added that the IKN metaverse was expected to simultaneously encourage the digital and real economy in the new capital city because users could own virtual lands at IKN Nusantara.
