TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police have revealed the identity of a woman who pointed a gun at members of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) in front of the State Palace on Tuesday. The woman, Siti Elina from Koja, North Jakarta, was arrested immediately.

"The police have obtained the identity of the woman who tried to break into the first ring of the palace. Her name is Siti Elina from Kampung Mangga Street, Koja District, North Jakarta," Jakarta Metro Police's PR chief, Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan said on Thursday, October 26.

The police confiscated Siti's all of personal effects she had at the time of the arrest; her bag, a Quran, a mobile phone, her wallet and cash, three firearms, a gun-shaped knife, three books, and air rifle bullets.

Siti Elina is charged with violating Article 1 paragraph 1 of Emergency Law no.12/1951 on possession of firearms. She could face the death penalty or life imprisonment or a temporary prison sentence of a maximum of twenty years.

On Tuesday morning, October 25, Siti Elina pointed a gun at members of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) at the Merdeka Palace.

Paspampres Commander Rear Marshal Wahju Hidayat said the incident happened at 07:10. Paspampres member Private Angga Prayoga, who was standing guard at the Merdeka Palace post, noticed the suspicious movement of a woman wearing a niqab. She was walking towards the road divider in front of the Merdeka Palace on Jalan Merdeka Utara, he said.

"From the road divider, the woman could be seen heading towards the palace fence area, which is the ring zone of Paspampres," Wahyu said in a written statement, Tuesday, October 25.

As she walked towards the palace fence, Private Angga saw her taking out a gun, later identified as an FN pistol. Wahyu said the woman immediately pointed the gun at Private Angga.

Other members of the Paspampres immediately secured the woman, taking the gun away. The woman, later identified as Siti Elina was apprehended and then handed over to the police.

"The woman is now in police custody. For further details, please address your questions to the Jakarta Metro Police," Wahyu said.
