TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) of East Nusa Tenggara stated that there were reportedly two children in the province who died of symptoms believed to be from acute kidney failure.
"So far there have been no reports of children dying after taking syrup medicine. The two cases that occurred in NTT are the same as cases that often occur today," said NTT IDAI Chairman Woro Indri Padmosiwi in Kupang, Thursday, October 20, Antaranews reported.
Indri mentioned the two children who died, one in Rote Ndao Regency and the other case in West Sumba.
She added that in West Sumba, the local health agency plans to transfer patients to a hospital in Denpasar, Bali, for further treatment. Unfortunately, this is because there are no hospitals in NTT that have the tools to analyze or treat children with the chronic kidney disease.
"The case from West Sumba, according to the latest information, had died on Wednesday night," said Indri. The patient who died was 1 year and 10 months old and came from Waikabubak City, West Sumba Regency.
According to reports from a local hospital, the child was admitted to a local hospital for complaints linked to difficulties urinating that lasted for three days before being admitted to the hospital.
"We also can't confirm that the two children who died suffered from acute kidney failure due to consuming syrup medicine," said Woro Indri Padmosiwi.
