TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police's General Crimes Investigation Directorate Deputy, Adj. Sr. Comr. Jerry Siagian, is held at the special detainment center of the Mobile Brigade's Command Headquarters in Kelapa Dua Depok. Jerry is detained on suspicions of violating ethics code in investigating the murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat a.k.a. Brigadier J.
According to Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, the National Police's PR chief, Jerry's has been detained for some time now. He did not say the exact date. "We've informed about it since a while ago now," he said on Monday, Aug. 22.
Jerry is suspected of pressuring the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) into protecting Ferdy Sambo's wife, Putri Candrawathi. LPSK's deputy chair, Edwin Partogi Pasaribu, told Tempo on August 15 that it happened during the July 29 meeting at the Jakarta Metro Police HQ.
Not just the LPSK, the Metro Police also invited to the meeting representatives from several ministries, the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the National Commission for Mothers and Child Protection (KPAI), the Presidential Staff Office for Women and Children, NGOs, and a psychologist appointed by Polda Metro Jaya to examine Putri Candrawati.
During the meeting, LPSK was called out as being too procedural and slow, not siding with the victim, and gender insensitive.
Jerry is one of five Jakarta Metro Police's Intermediate officers detained on suspicion of ethics violations by obstructing justice. One of them is former South Jakarta Police Chief, Sr. Comr. Budhi Herdi Susianto.
To date, a Special Team from the Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has examined 83 police officers suspected of violating ethics code in the investigation of Brigadier Yosua's murder. Fifteen of them have been detained for alleged ethical violations, of which six are strongly suspected of attempting to obstruct the investigation process.
For the murder of Brigadier J, the Indonesian Police have named five suspects: Ferdy Sambo, his wife Putri Chandrawathi, Richard Eliezer, Ricky Rizal, and Strong Ma'ruf.
