TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agriculture Ministry presented awards to the regional governments of five provinces deemed to have achieved the foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination target, the ministry’s Director General of Livestock and Health Nasrullah has reported.
The five provinces are Riau Islands, Bali, South Kalimantan, Jakarta, and South Sumatra. Nasrullah said they had succeeded in controlling the cases, even recording zero cases or no new cases.
“The case has plummeted and has been handled well,” he said in a written statement on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Based on the official page for FMD affairs siagapmk.crisis-center.id on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, 19 provinces have been exposed to the outbreak with a total of 487,746 infected livestock. The number of vaccinated animals, meanwhile, amounted to 1,486,681.
On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, the Indonesian Cattle and Buffalo Breeders Association (PPSKI) chairman Nanang Purus Subendro stated that the number of FMD cases collected by his team was ten times higher than the Agriculture Ministry’s data. This, he argued, was because the government collected the data slowly which did not come from independent paramedics and the community.
