TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has officially imposed a new requirement for adult passengers aged 18 and above who have not received a third dose Covid-19 vaccination or booster shot, subjecting them to PCR tests prior to boarding any long-distance train services. This new policy has been enacted today, August 15.
KAI spokeswoman Eva Chairunisa in a written statement on Monday said: “Those who have not been booster vaccinated must show a valid negative PCR test result during boarding processes.”
This provision must be met by train passengers, including those departing from the Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, Jakarta Kota, Bekasi, Cikarang, Karawang, and Cikampek areas.
The travel provisions are contained in the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 80 of 2022 concerning Railways during the Covid-19 Pandemic Period. KAI will have the right to refuse entry of those who do not meet the new criteria and provides a full ticket refund scheme.
Meanwhile, long-distance train passengers aged 6-17 years who have received the second dose of the vaccine do not need to show a negative result of Covid-19 screening. However, the same does not apply to this demographic who have only received their first dose of vaccinations.
