Workers' Rally in Front of DPR Today; People Advised to Avoid Senayan Area

10 August 2022 07:15 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe public is highly advised to avoid Senayan area of Central Jakarta today, August 10, as workers planned to stage a demonstration in front of the DPR/MPR Building.

The Traffic Unit Head of Central Jakarta Police Comr. Purwanta informed that there will possibly be a traffic diversion during the rally depending on the number of protesters and the density of vehicles.

“Inshallah, it will run safely. We will apply the traffic diversion tentatively for tomorrow's labor demonstration,” said Purwanta on Tuesday, August 9, as quoted from Antara in Jakarta.

The Workers and People Movement (Gebrak) planned to stage a street protest with a gathering point under the flyover of Taman Ria, Senayan. The demonstration will start at 9 a.m. They will voice demands, such as rejecting the Job Creation Law, urging for revocation of the criminal code draft bill (RKUHP), and urging for lower prices of basic necessities.

Workers from the Alliance for the Action of Million Workers will also join the rally. They have reportedly held a long march from Bandung to Jakarta since last Saturday, August 6, to present their demands in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building on Jalan Gatot Subroto.

Here is the possible traffic diversion to be applied by the police today:

  1. Vehicles from Jalan Gatot Subroto to the DPR/MPR will be turned left onto Jalan Gerbang Pemuda.
  2. Vehicles from Jalan Pintu Pemuda willing to pass Jalan Gatot Subroto will be asked to make a U-turn under the Ladogi flyover.
  3. Vehicles from the inner city toll road that will exit at Offramp Pulau Dua will be asked to go straight towards Tomang toll road
  4. The traffic from the east to west of Manggala Wanabakti heading to Slipi toll road and Palmerah Station is closed.
  5. Vehicles from Jalan Palmerah Timur to Jalan Gelora will be directed to go straight to Jalan Tentara Pelajar.
  6. Vehicles from Jalan Asia Afrika to Jalan Gelora will be diverted to Jalan Pintu Pemuda.
  7. Vehicles from Jalan Pintu Pemuda to Jalan Gelora will be asked to turn left to Jalan Asia Afrika.
