TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pademangan Sector Police, North Jakarta, arrested two suspected street robbers or locally known begal, ISK and YD, who are on the wanted list (DPO) of Kemayoran Police, Central Jakarta, since May 2021.
According to the Pademangan Police Chief Comr. Happy Saputra, their DPO status was revealed from the development of an alleged robbery case involving three suspects on Jalan RE Martadinata on August 3, 2022.
Happy explained that the police officers initially suspected three teens, F (20), EK (15), and RA (19) who were riding a motorcycle on Jalan RE Martadinata and stopped them. After questioning, one of them carried a sharp weapon in the form of a sickle. “We charged them with the Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951,” he recalled.
They then admitted to having committed violent theft in a number of areas with four other people, identified as UTI (19), YD (17), R (19), and I (21). They were later arrested and taken to the Pademangan Police for further investigation.
It turned out that the suspects ISK and YD were on the DPO due to the fatal fight that resulted in one person's death on Jalan Utan Panjang III, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Following the arrest of the seven suspects, the police hunted down the head of the gang RS (17) and managed to arrest him.
The suspects ISK and YD would be handed over to the Kemayoran Police, while six other suspects would be presented at a press conference at the Pademangan Police HQ on Monday.
They would be charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code on theft with violence with a penalty of five years in prison. The police also seized two sickle blades as evidence in this case.
