TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito on Friday called for every healthcare worker to take their second booster shots, which he argues is needed to better protect them against coronavirus exposure.
"I urge all Health Human Resources to immediately get a second booster vaccine at health care facilities or at the Covid-19 vaccination service post because we are a group that has a high risk of being exposed to Covid-19," said Wiku in his statement, Friday, August 5.
He added that the first booster vaccinations had only reached 27.22 percent or 56,829,093 people. However, Wiku said that plans for a second booster shot for the general public will be announced in the future.
“The Health Ministry will share the latest developments on the second booster vaccination program,” he explained.
According to data from the Ministry of Health as of Thursday, August 4, the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination has been given 202,623,385 people, or 97.29 percent coverage, while the second dose of vaccines reached 81.72 percent or has been administered to 170,201,649 people.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, the provinces of DKI Jakarta, Bali, Riau, Yogyakarta, and East Kalimantan are within the highest percentage of Covid-19 vaccine recipients. While the five lowest regions are Papua, West Papua, Maluku, West Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi.
