Soekarno-Hatta Passengers Grow Despite Booster Vaccine Requirement

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airport operator Angkasa Pura II logged an increased number of air travel passengers departing from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport even though the new flight regulation - enacted on July 27 -  requires air passengers to be completely vaccinated with the third Covid shots.

The latest regulation to tackle the spread of Covid-19 was introduced under the official government Circular by the Transportation Ministry No.70/2022 which states that domestic flight passengers are not required to take PCR or antigen tests if they have already received the booster vaccines.

This means that people who have only received primary vaccination, or the first and second doses, must provide proof of PCR or antigen tests prior to boarding commercial flights.

“Passengers from July 1-24 were recorded at 3 million people, which is a 3 percent increase compared to June 1-24 that logged 2.9 million passengers,” said Angkasa Pura II president Muhammad Awaluddin on July 27.

The daily average of air travelers across Angkasa Pura II airports following the latest health Circular was 175,000 from July 9-16. The same number was also recorded in the following period from July 17-24.

The Angkasa Pura II President predicted that the number of air passengers will grow even larger during the national holiday commemorating Indonesia’s independence on August 17.
