TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has begun his series of working visits to Tokyo. On Monday, he met with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Koichi Hagiuda.
Among the topics discussed in the meeting was the development of cooperation in the Forum Public and Private Dialogue Track 1.5: Japan Indonesia Co-Creation Partnership for Innovative.
Airlangga said the Indonesian government and the Japanese government had agreed on a number of areas of cooperation, namely capacity building, digital technology, supply chains, and promotion of green industries.
"These include human resource development projects in collaboration with the Bekasi Education and Training Agency [BPPK] or better known as CEVEST," Airlangga said in Japan, Monday.
Airlangga also spoke about a number of important issues that are still pending in the discussion, including Indonesia's request for market access for canned tuna exports to Japan. This is related to the fact that Thailand currently has a lower tariff for exporting their tuna to Japan.
"Indonesia hopes that Japan can reduce tariffs for Indonesian tuna products so that Indonesia has the same level playing field as other countries in the region," he said.
They also spoke of the investments made by the Japanese government in the Indonesian automotive industry. Minister Hagiuda said that the progress of automotive cooperation between the two nations has been very good.
"A number of Japanese companies also continue to increase their investment commitments in Indonesia," he said, mentioning Mitsubishi's commitment to start producing electric cars in Indonesia starting next year.
Toyota and Nissan, he said, will also develop Electric Vehicle production in Indonesia, with Nissan planning to use eco-friendly technologies and considering the use of hydrogen-based fuels.
