TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kominfo) expert staff Devi Rahmawati said weak digital competence, such as being entangled in illegal online lending and fake investments, cost Indonesians up to Rp14 trillion from 2011 to 2020.
“The money wasted because they are entangled in illegal loans, while some in bogus investments, and others, amounts to more than Rp14 trillion,” said Devie in a discussion held virtually on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
She mentioned that some people planned to use the money for savings or hajj or their children’s education abroad. “[Their money] is wasted due to weak digital lteracy,” said Devi.
The ministry, she added, has already designed programs to not only boost Indonesians’ digital skills, but also digital ethics, culture, and security. Moreover, community activities, including economic affairs, have intersected with digital activities in the current developing era.
In tandem with the Ministry of Education, Kominfo improves the quality of human resources through digital capacity building. Devie underlined that the ministry has the responsibility to not only build infrastructure but also human resources.
The capacity building of human resources, Devie went on, has been carried out since last year. One of them is through campaigns. Kominfo targeted that 50 million people will have digital capabilities by 2024.
