KPK Extends Ambon Mayor's Detention Period for 30 Days

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention period of Inactive Ambon Mayor, Richard Louhenapessy. The extension is for 30 days, starting today until August 10, 2022.
Richard was arrested by after the KPK named him as a suspect in a Rp500 million bribery allegation related to the granting of permits for the construction of the Alfamidi retail branch in 2020.
"To complete the case filing process by maximizing the collection of evidence, the Investigative Team will keep the suspect RL and his friends in detention for the next 30 days, KPK acting spokesman Ali Fikri said on Tuesday, July 12.
Ali said that the detention was based on the determination by the Head of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, starting July 12, 2022.
Besides Richard, the KPK also extended the detention period of another suspect in the case, Ambon City's administrative staff Andrew Erin Hehanusa,
The KPK named Richard as a suspect in the case of alleged bribery related to the granting of construction permits for 20 retail branches in Ambon City, Maluku in 2020. He was named as a suspect along with Andrew Erin Hehanusa and Alfamidi employee Amri.
The KPK suspects that Richard and Andrew received bribes totaling Rp500 million from Amri in return for granting construction permits for 20 convenience stores.
Earlier this month, the KPK named Richard Louhenapessy as a suspect in another case; money laundering. Ali Fikri said that investigators found indications of crimes Richard allegedly committed while serving as the city's Mayor for two terms; from 2011 to 2016 and from 2017 to 2022.
