TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in the launch of Grab Electric on Tuesday urged ride-hailing firm Grab to move its headquarters from Singapore to Indonesia. He pledged to support the company’s contribution to Indonesia.
“I only have one request, it is for the headquarters to be moved here,” said Luhut in the event held at his office on July 12. “Don't let the headquarters be in Singapore but generate most of the money in Indonesia. I also called for the same in the palm oil industry, to make Indonesia great.”
Luhut proclaimed that Indonesia is a developing country that houses the best economy during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. He said that it was the conclusion of a discussion with China’s Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi during his visit to Indonesia.
Moreover, he said Wang Yi mentioned Indonesia’s ease of investment, acceptable sets of regulations, and government support for investors that come to Indonesia. “We must be proud of this situation,” he added.
During the launch, Grab Indonesia president Ridzki Kramadibrata asserted collaboration to accelerate the improvement of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country, which aligns with the Indonesian government’s vision regarding vehicle electrification.
