TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan encouraged the city residents to immediately have a COVID-19 vaccine booster in response to the central government’s plan to set the third-dose vaccination as a requirement for public activities and travel using public transportation.
“At present, 50 percent of Jakartans have received the booster shot. We have to increase [the rate]. I ask Jakarta residents to immediately take the booster dose for those who haven't. All must receive a booster dose,” said Anies at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library, Central Jakarta, Thursday, July 7, 2022.
If the central government makes such a decision, he said the city administration will implement it. “Whether it (the booster vaccination) is compulsory or not for activities, let's take responsibility. After all, this aims at protecting us all,” he underlined.
Anies Baswedan argued that it is not about the booster dose as an order, but whether the people want to protect themselves. “Visit health facilities and get a booster shot so that we are protected.”
The central government is determined to require the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for conducting public activities that involve large numbers of people and traveling using public transportation. This policy will take effect soon.
