TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Social Ministry on Tuesday announced that it has revoked the charity permit of Aksi Cepat Tanggap or ACT for violations that were suspected to have been committed by the charity organization.
The official letter to revoke the permit was signed by Social Affairs Minister ad interim Muhadjir Effendy on Tuesday, July 5, as Minister Tri Rismaharani is currently conducting her Hajj pilgrimage.
Effendi said in a statement on Wednesday, “Our reason to revoke the permit is due to signs of violations against the Social Minister’s Regulation. Follow-up sanctions will wait for a report by the Inspectorate General.”
This announcement comes after the Minister invited representatives of ACT that was attended by ACT President Ibnu Khajar for clarification. This meeting revealed that the philanthropy organization would on average take in 13.7 percent of donations it gathered, which goes against the maximum limit of 10 percent.
On July 2, Tempo Magazine issued an extensive report regarding the alleged charity fund embezzlement by ACT, which Khajar claimed was partially true and followed up by issuing a public apology. Tempo’s team primarily focused on the alleged wrongdoing by the organization’s former president Ahyudin.
“On behalf of ACT, we apologize profusely to the community, perhaps some people are not comfortable with the news that is currently circulating,” said Ibnu at a press conference at ACT HQ, Menara 165, South Jakarta on Monday, July 4.
