TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Food Agency stated that the price of broiler eggs reaching Rp30,000 per kilogram is ideal as it is based on farmers’ capital for production.
“The price for chicken eggs which ranges from Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram is in accordance with the production capital that must be spent by farmers and traders' margins,” said the agency head Arief Prasetyo Adi as quoted from Bisnis.com on Monday, June 27, 2022.
The price of chicken eggs has increased by almost 5 percent in the past month. Arief said this will be the new price that applies in the future. He opined that the price hike is reasonable because it has entered the new price balance.
Despite the price increase, he ensured the stock of the basic commodity is sufficient or even surplus until next August. The Agriculture Ministry recorded a surplus of 84,544 tons in June and 47,339 tons in July.
The Trade Ministry stated that the surge in egg prices was allegedly due to the rising production costs of corn as chicken feed and other imported materials. Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center, the price of eggs was at Rp29,250 per kilogram on Friday, July 24, 2022.
Head of the Poultry Unit at the Agriculture Ministry, Iqbal Alim, outlined that the increase in feed prices for broiler chicken in January-May 2022 jumped 7.74 percent or Rp620 per kilogram. Meanwhile, feed for laying hens rose 7.74 percent or Rp563 per kilogram and its concentrate increased by Rp1,006 per kilogram or 12.55 percent.
