TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The annual Jakarta Fair exhibition, after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 health precautions, is held again at Central Jakarta's JIExpo Kemayoran and was officially opened by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Thursday night.
In a written statement today, the governor expressed his gratitude to see the annual event held again as it has existed for 53 years.
"We are grateful today to be holding the Jakarta Fair again after two years of absence due to the pandemic. Alhamdulillah," he said in a written statement, Friday, June 10.
Baswedan hopes the Jakarta Fair can help escalate and accelerate the city’s economic revival after the pandemic. "We hope that people will be moved and transactions will increase so that it will have an impact on our economy," he said.
Statistics from 2019 reveal that the event was attended by 6.8 million people which had generated Rp7.5 trillion in transactions. The governor hopes to emulate the same number this year.
The economic activities surrounding the Jakarta Fair are not only through financial transactions but also through events that let people exchange experiences and expand their networks. Baswedan hopes the fair's nature can help businesses participating in the event can progress and develop together.
