Jokowi Gathers State Ministers; New Capital Project Starts Second Half of 2022

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, on Friday, gathered a number of state ministers at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java to discuss plans regarding the construction of the New Capital City of Nusantara (IKN).
Following the meeting, appointed New Capital Authority Head Bambang Susanto said that his team was preparing to execute field construction, mainly land development, and establish logistical and infrastructure accesses.
“We expect to see a number of field construction projects being done in the second half of 2022,” said Susanto in a press conference on Friday, June 3. “The hope is to start building on the scale that we have targeted in 2023.”
Apart from Bambang Susanto, also present in the meeting are Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir, Agrarian Affairs Minister Sofyan Djalil, Finance Deputy Minister Suahasil Nazara, and National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
President Jokowi reportedly called on state ministers to finalize the multi-sector plans for the New Capital. Bambang added that the state ministries joined in the IKN transition team are working tightly with each other to meet the 2024 goal.
