Aru Islands Prosecutor's Office Arrest Fugitive after 6-year Hunt

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The intelligence team of the Aru Islands District Prosecutor’s Office, Maluku, managed to arrest the graft convict Thomy Wattimena who was on the wanted list (DPO) for the past six years in Ambon. Thomy was sentenced to four years behind bars.
“Thomy was included on the DPO by the prosecutors since 2016 as he escaped after the Supreme Court sentenced him to four years in prison,” said the Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the Maluku Prosecutor’s Office, Wahyudi Kareba, in Ambon, Monday, May 30, 2022.
The graft convict in the construction of three new classrooms at Jelia Christian Elementary School, Aru Islands Regency, in 2007 was arrested in Kudamati Village, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City after being under surveillance since Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Wahyudi outlined that Thomy was arrested based on the Supreme Court's decision No. 1020 K/Pidsus/2015 dated May 27 2015 in conjunction with PT Ambon's decision No. 09/Pid.Tipikor/2014/PT.AMB on November 12, 2014.
Thomy Wattimena as the owner of CV Letmi Pratama and the contractor in the construction project of new classrooms for Jelia Christian Elementary School was proven guilty of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001.
“Other than imprisonment, the person concerned was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp97.623 million, with a subsidiary of three months in prison,” explained Wahyudi.
After the fugitive was arrested, the intelligence team sent him to the Ambon Prosecutor’s Office for administrative and identity checks, then he was taken to Dobo, Aru Islands Regency, to serve his sentence.
