TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) recorded an increase in visits during Ramadan and Eid in 2022. Visits for shopping during the period were higher this year, around 30 percent compared to 2021's holiday season.
"We hope it can raise the average rate of visits to shopping centers in 2022 to 70-80 percent, better than 2020's 50 percent and 2021's 60 percent," APPBI chairman Alphonzus Widjaja told Tempo on Wednesday, May 4.
Alphonzus said that the peak of visits to shopping centers during Ramadan generally occurs about one week before Eid, with this year's peak occurring on 23-24 April 2022. "They were dominated by [visitors] shopping for clothing and household needs," he said.
After Ramadan, visits to shopping centers generally take place on the second day. "People tend to spend more on food and beverage as well as entertainment," he said.
Alphonzus said that as the government allowed the annual Eid homecoming or mudik to resume this year, it affected the rate of public visits to shopping centers in big cities, especially Jakarta.
