TEMPO.CO, JakartaCoordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and his entourage reportedly met with the CEO of Tesla Inc, Elon Musk, discussing a number of issues including exploring collaboration opportunities.

In an Instagram post belonging to the deputy president director of energy firm TBS Energi Utama, Pandu Sjahrir, on Tuesday, April 26, it was stated that Luhut and Pandu met with Musk at Tesla’s electric vehicle assembly plant, Austin, Texas.

The entourage included Anindya Bakrie, who is the general chair of the Advisory Council of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and President Director of listed investment firm Bakrie & Brothers.

The meeting was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Rosan Roeslani and the former CEO of Bukalapak Rachmat Kaimuddin who now serves as a special adviser in the technology sector of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

“We are a delegation led by Pak Luhut Pandjaitan to talk about electric vehicles, renewable energy, and B20 (20 percent blended biodiesel),” wrote Pandu.

According to him, Elon was excited to talk about Indonesia and the progress of the nickel industry and electric vehicles in the country.

Pandu hoped that the meeting could bring more high technology investment to Indonesia so that the archipelago could be a vital part of the global electric vehicle industry supply chain.

Meanwhile, Anindya Bakrie on his Instagram account said Luhut’s entourage met with Elon Musk to convince the latter to explore cooperation with Indonesia regarding the supply and process of nickel as raw material for producing battery cells that comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
