TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The PDIP House of Representatives (DPR) faction on Tuesday confirmed that the House legislator who was recorded watching pornographic content from his mobile device during a session is one of its members. This went viral on social media as the whole incident was filmed.
However, PDIP faction secretary Bambang Wuryanto defended that the act of one of his associates was unintentional.
Wuryanto refused to expose the identity of his colleague. He argued that the legislator in question unintentionally opened a video sent to his phone through a Whatsapp app and believed the person genuinely did not expect it to be pornographic content.
“We feel we don’t want to place blame. We would like to clarify that this is our acquaintance, who received a Whatsapp message, which in reflex he opened and it turned out to be the video,” said the PDIP faction secretary at the Parliamentary Complex on April 12.
Bambang suspected that his acquaintance had been framed, “So if you are in politics, this can be a modus operandi to be photographed once they open a Whatsapp message.”
He claimed the truth behind his allegation will be proven in the DPR Court of Honor (MKD) but said PDIP has not planned to sanction its member in question.
