TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria assessed that traffic congestion in the capital is attributable to the increasing public mobility as the government has relaxed the COVID-19 restrictions to PPKM Level 2 and allowed schools to undergo 100 percent face-to-face learning (PTM).
The central government has eased restrictions on public transportation, school activities, and other public activities which led to traffic density across the city. "On that basis, the interaction of community mobility is surely getting higher, causing traffic jams,” said Riza at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, April 6.
To deal with congestion, the city administration is set to optimize public transportation such as TransJakarta and prepare integrated services, including the integrated ticketing system.
“We keep making improvements. The most important thing is public support by using public transportation. In addition, we will improve bicycle lanes,” he added.
Since Monday, April 4, traffic jams have occurred on a number of Jakarta’s protocol roads, such as Jalan Gatot Subroto, Sudirman-Thamrin, Kuningan, Rasuna Said, and others.
Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate reported an increased volume of vehicles by 10-18 percent over the past week, causing congestion in a number of areas.
