TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the quarantine-free travel policy on a trial basis for foreign travelers arriving in Bali, Batam, and Bintan will bring direct impacts on the traffic of tourists.
He believed that the number of foreign tourists by the end of the year will exceed the government's target.
“With the quarantine-free entry, the number of tourists will upsize. The numbers can be revised,” said Sandiaga in the Weekly Press Briefing on Monday, March 7.
The ministry targeted a total of 1.8 to 3.6 million foreign visitors this year. The figures exceeded the realization of foreign visits in 2021 which amounted to 1.56 million, according to Statistics Indonesia’s (BPS) data.
In addition to the quarantine-free entry, the government decided to issue visas on arrival in a bid to boost the number of tourists. Moreover, the government had compiled tourism programs in the Calendar of Event in all major tourist destinations.
Sandiaga Uno also ensured that tourism businesses were prepared to welcome a surge in tourists visits after the quarantine-free entry and visa-on-arrival policies took effect.
