TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Tangerang Regency recorded a new death case from COVID-19 on Wednesday, Feb. 23. A spokesperson for the Tangerang COVID-19 Task Force Hendra Tarmizi said there were a total of 407 deaths.
“This week, one more patient died,” said Hendra in Tangerang, Thursday, Feb. 24.
The 48-year-old patient underwent intensive medical treatment at the Tangerang Regency Hospital. It is not yet known whether the individual was exposed to the Delta or Omicron variant.
“The patient had comorbidities and had only received one dose of vaccine,” said Hendra.
To prevent more casualties, the task force encouraged people with comorbidities and test positive for the virus to be immediately referred to the hospital even if they are asymptomatic.
“Because 78 percent of the total nine deaths due to COVID-19 is elderly with comorbidities,” said Hendra.
People who have comorbidities are also advised to take swab tests regularly. “People test positives without developing symptoms should immediately be hospitalized. This reduces the risk of death,” he underlined.
The task force had also asked the community health center (Puskesmas) to directly refer comorbid patients to the hospital. Hendra also said Tangerang Regency has prepared 1,300 hospital beds and 400 isolation beds across 25 hospitals, 44 health centers, and 100 clinics, as well as deployed 9,000 health workers.
As of Thursday, Tangerang Regency recorded 12,085 active cases of patients undergoing hospital treatment or integrated/self-isolation. Since the onset of the pandemic, the regency logged 49,561 positive cases with 37,089 recoveries.
