TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office revealed the levels of booster efficacy in raising our antibodies against Covid-19, based on the brand of vaccine used. According to research conducted by the Health Ministry in collaboration with the University of Padjadjaran and the University of Indonesia, Pfizer and AstraZeneca provided different levels of antibody boost.
Jakarta Health Office chief Jakarta Widyastuti said that, according to research, half a dose of Pfizer as a booster will be able to increase antibodies up to 48.9 times if it is taken within 3 to 6 months after the second dose of vaccine. If the booster jab is taken 6 to 9 months after the second dose of vaccination, the antibody increase can reach 80.6 times.
Meanwhile, a booster shot of AstraZeneca—also half a dose—could increase antibodies by 23.5 times if taken between 3 and 6 months from the second dose, and 49.7 times if taken 6 to 9 months.
"Therefore, we have determined the timing to get third doses or boosters is 6 to 9 months after the second dose. The goal is so that the antibody boost would be higher compared to getting the boosters before the 6 months mark is passed," Widyastuti said today, February 17.
