TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police barred the public from holding any events to celebrate New Year's Eve, particularly in areas affected by the closure policy. The police will launch security patrol in a number of areas.
The city’s traffic police director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the policy will monitor situations in various places, such as cafes, restaurants, karaoke bars, and other entertainment venues in the area.
“There will be officers who will comb through cafes, restaurants, karaoke, and other public places to ensure they close on time,” said Sambodo at Jakarta Metro Police HQ on Wednesday, December 22.
A number of locations to be closed on New Year's Eve include Jalan Sudirman, M.H. Thamrin, around the National Monument (Monas) area, Kemayoran, Asia Afrika, Kemang, Dharmawangsa, Senopati, Antasari, and the East Flood Canal (BKT).
The closure will take effect from 10 p.m. December 31, 2020, until 4 a.m. January 1, 2022. Sambodo said the places, however, are allowed to operate until 10 p.m.
The area will be then sterilized from motorized vehicles. According to Sambodo, road closures were carried out to prevent crowds during New Year celebrations. “Fireworks are also prohibited,” he underlined.
