TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport COVID-19 Task Force commander Col. Agus Listiyono provided a response in relation to a viral video showing a long queue of passengers waiting for quarantine after traveling from abroad at the airport. The incident, Agus said, occurred a week ago.
The passengers in the video were now undergoing isolation at the government's quarantine center of Rusun Nagrak, Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta.
"The long queue was due to several factors, including Wisma Nagrak that was not ready to accommodate people for quarantine on Saturday morning," Agus told Tempo on Monday, December 20, 2021.
They could not be directed to the Wisma Atlet quarantine center because it was under lockdown following the recently confirmed case of the Omicron variant.
Agus said people arriving at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport at midnight Friday, December 10. The long queue thus occurred due to other arrivals on Saturday morning, December 11.
"They left the airport for the quarantine on Saturday afternoon," he added.
Agus admitted that the accumulation of passengers caused inconvenience. However, the authorities could not do much.
A 2-minute and 30-second video showing dozens of passengers flocking the international arrivals area at Terminal 3 went viral on social media. A woman in the video also claimed she and other passengers were offered a quarantine service at hotels with high prices.
"The woman who recorded the video should have been quarantined at the hotel. She was not eligible for quarantine under the government's service," Agus remarked.
