World Bank Approves USD 400 Million Loan for National Health Insurance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The World Bank approved a USD 400 million loan to improve the quantity and efficiency of Indonesia's National Health Insurance program on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
"The funding, 'Reformation Program and Outcome of the National Health Insuracnce' is aimed at improving the quality of medical treatment, increase the efficiency of JKN spending, and to support the ccreation or implementation of JKN policies," said Secretary General of the Ministry of Health Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha in a statement on Saturday, December 18, 2021, as quoted by Antara.
In addition to improve the quality of medical treatment and efficiency og JKN spending, the funding will support the improvement of health information system, which is expected to be integrated in the creation more on-target JKN policies.
The program will involve four main JKN stakeholders, which are the Ministry of Health, the Health Social Insurance Implementation Agency (BPJS-K), the National Social Security Council (DJSN), and the Ministry of Finance to facilitate coordination and list much needed reformation.
The financial support will be chanelled through the Program for results (PforR) instruments of the World Bank that links fund disbursement with specific program milestones and is designed for a period of five years.
The program will utilize various indicators, including the improvement of treatment provision process at medical treatment facilities and first level hopsitals, strengthening of insurance claim management and prevention of unnecessary claims, and on improvement of fund utilization in decision making and supporting policies.
