Jokowi Eyeing to Develop Electric Vehicle Ecosystem in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday paid a visit to the automotive exhibition GIIAS 2021 held at the ICE BSD in Tangerang. The President also test drove one of many electric vehicles displayed in the event.
After testing Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV at the event’s parking lot, Jokowi opined that Indonesia is in dire need to establish an environmentally-friendly and low emissions vehicle ecosystem. The government will also push for the production of electric vehicles (EV).
“We also call for the production of hybrid and electric vehicles. Each and every one of them must be environmentally friendly,” said the President to journalists present at GIIAS 2021 on November 17.
He also claimed to have met with CEOS of the automotive industry participating in the exhibition and had conveyed the government’s intentions of building an EV ecosystem.
The President was present with his entourage consisting of State Secretariat Minister Pratikno, Minister of Industries Agus Gumiwang, and Tangerang Regent Ahmad Zaki Iskandar.
