TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Monument (Monas) area management unit (UPK), Muhammad Isa Sarnuri, asserted that the revitalization of the area was not related to the electric car racing event, Formula E. The Monas revitalization is a different program from its naming as the Formula E race venue.
"There's no relation with Formula E. It's just a revitalization, that is coming to a halt temporarily due to the budget 'refocusing'," Isa told Tempo Saturday, October 8. Even though the race would no longer be held in Monas, the revitalization of the tourist destination will continue.
The project was first started following the design contest initiated by Jakarta Administration by the end of 2018, aiming to beautify the National Monument area. So far, the revitalization has been complete in the southern area, the side that faces the City Hall.
Previously, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria mentioned several factors why Monas' naming as the location of Formula E race was canceled; among others is due to its status as cultural heritage.
Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), as the Formula E management, is preparing five alternative venues to hold the event slated to take place in 2022.
