TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia became the world's third biggest contributor of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, 7 July 2021. According to worldometers.info, Indonesia added 34,379 new confirmed infections in the last 24 hours yesterday.

The most cases came from Brazil with 54,022, followed by India with 45,196 cases in second place.

In fourth and fifth place were the UK with 32,548 cases and Colombia with 24,229.

Indonesia also recorded the second most Covid-19 deaths on the day with 1,040 patients, the highest daily death toll for the nation.

Meanwhile, epidemiologist from Griffith University Australia, Dicky Budiman, urged the government to immediately seek help from China and Singapore, and not wait until the daily case count reaches 40,000

He made the remark following Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan's statement that he would ask China and Singapore for help if Indonesia's Covid-19 cases reach 40,000 people daily, including oxygen supplies and other medical equipment.
